Niagara Falls is one of the biggest tourist attractions in North America. However, you can only look at the falls for so long. So, what else is there to do on the Canadian side in Niagara City? Well, it is actually the perfect weekend trip. Here are the top 5 activities around Niagara Falls.
This structure overlooks the falls themselves. It gives you the perfect aerial shot of the falls that you cannot get anywhere else. At the top of the tower there is a rotating restaurant that I highly recommend visiting. There is a fee to get to the top of the tower, so if you eat at the restaurant the trip to the top is free. Not to mention you have an amazing view of the falls and the city while you eat! The food was not as amazing as I would have expected it to be – it was quite mediocre. However, the view and experience itself made up for it.
The Skylon Tower also makes the list as one of the top 5 activities around Niagara Falls because of its location. Obviously, it is near the falls, but it is walking distance from a lot of hotels and other shops and activities in the city.
Clifton Hill is an area just about a seven-minute walk from Skylon Tower. The Main street is full of little shops, snack bars, mini museums, and of course the Sky Wheel. If you are looking for family fun, this is your spot. You can play miniature golf, ride a giant ferris wheel, see wax and world record museums, go through a haunted house, grab some ice cream, and so much more! It reminds me a lot of a beach city like Myrtle Beach or even a bit of Destin.
This Casino is the older of the two on the Canadian side of the falls, but I still think it’s on the list for top 5 activities around Niagara Falls. It is a bit smaller and older, but for some hotels, it is a closer walk than the newer casino. The casino also has a delicious sports bar and buffet I recommend stopping by if you need a lucky break. It is also right new the Clifton Hill area, so it is perfect to stop in for a drink if you need a break from the craziness!
Niagara on the Lake
There is a large area about a 20-minute drive from the falls themselves full of wineries! You can take tours, tastings, or just enjoy the restaurants on site at each winery. I have personally visited Konzelmann and Trius Wineries, but there are so many great ones. There is also a biking tour you can take as well as a bus tour, so you can see them all. This is not only a top 5 activity around Niagara Falls, but a must-visit in my opinion. If you are really interested in wineries, I also suggest Wine Trails – USA & Canada (Lonely Planet) as a good read!
The newest addition to Niagara City is the Fallsview Casino. When you walk in, you get the feeling of Las Vegas. There are tons of higher end shops, restaurants, bars, and shows…this is all before you even get to the casino. And let’s not forget there is a hotel attached as well! Once you walk through those casino doors, there are so many different table and slot sections. Again, very much a Vegas feel. That is why this is a top 5 activity around Niagara Falls.
